Contents Insurance
|
| |
|
Saga's contents insurance provides wide cover for your possessions in the event of theft or damage inside your
home, garage, shed or outbuilding (which is on permanent foundations).
|
Cover includes:
|
-
"New for old" cover as standard, which means that we will replace items that are lost or damaged
with brand new ones of equivalent value, if we feel it is not feasible to replace/repair them. This excludes
clothing and linen, which can be protected with our Contents Cover Plus policy
-
Full cover when your home is left unoccupied for up to 60 days in a row. You can arrange to extend this
depending upon the circumstances (an additional premium may be charged)
-
Office contents cover of up to £5,000 if you work from home.
-
Frozen food protection, up to a limit of £500. Increased cover can be provided by Contents Cover Plus.
-
Up to £1,000 for guests' possessions if brought into your home during a visit.
-
Moving home contents cover, if your contents are lost or damaged, having been professionally packed and
carried when you move house. Please note: this is only available if you have Saga contents insurance on
your existing property.
-
Christmas and family weddings, when the amount of your cover will automatically be increased by 10%.
-
During a range of religious festivals your contents cover will be increased by 10% for the month of the festival.
-
Replacement of external locks if your keys are lost or stolen - maximum value of £250.
-
Up to £5,000 fatal injury benefit if you or any member of your family are fatally injured in your home due
to fire or theft.
-
Up to 20% of the amount for which you are insured towards the cost of alternative accommodation, if damage
for which you are insured makes your home uninhabitable.
-
Up to £1,000 for loss of oil or metered water.
-
Up to £2,000,000 for legal liability as an occupier
-
Up to £25 for each day you serve as a juror in a court of law (up to a limit of £1,000).
-
Dual contents cover of up to £5,000 when you are about to move into a new home. This is intended to protect
specific belongings that you might have already placed in the new property (such as newly laid carpets).
This cover is available for one week prior to your move providing you have exchanged contracts.
|
|
Saga's contents insurance policies automatically provide cover of up to £50,000 with premiums based upon your
individual home and possessions. Higher cover is available if required, at an additional charge.
|
|
Specific cases
Single room accommodation: We can still provide you with up to £50,000 worth of contents cover if you live in
single room accommodation which is sheltered or warden assisted. Due to your accommodation having added security, your
premium will be calculated on a rate less than that for a one bedroom flat.
Reducing your cover: it may be the case that you only have a small number of possessions in your home, for example, if
you use it solely as a holiday home. In these circumstances, you have the option of reducing your cover to just
£10,000. If you choose this option there is a limit of £3,000 for valuables. This cannot be reduced for your
main residence.
|
Valuables
Within the policy we assume that a certain number of your possessions will be valuables. Valuables are defined as
jewellery, watches, clocks, furs, articles made of gold/silver/precious metals, precious stones, pictures, works of art
and collections of coins, medals and stamps. A limit is set on the amount that can be paid out for valuables, based on
the number of bedrooms in your home.

Individual valuables
You should let us know about any particular valuables that are worth more than £2,500. These items must be
specified separately to ensure they are correctly covered.
Extended Accidental Damage
Upgrade your home contents insurance to cover against full accidental damage. This protects you against the cost of
any accidental damage that you or someone else causes to your home's contents, for example, if you were to knock a vase
off your mantelpiece or spill wine on the carpet.
If you require a higher level contents sum insured, please call 0800 015 1863 or

Additional Cover Options
Everyone has different insurance needs. Saga therefore offers a range of extra cover options that you can add to a Saga
contents insurance policy. Further details are available in the additional cover options
section.
